Carlos Domper Lasús is a postdoctoral research fellow at the History Department of the University of Zaragoza. Overall, his research deals with connecting Francoism and the Portuguese New State to the main historical phenomena that the European continent underwent after World War II. In 2018 he obtained a PhD in “Political History, Political Science and Political Theory” (international mention) at the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali ‘Guido Carli’ in Rome.
His PhD dissertation addressed the comparative study of the elections organised by the aforementioned dictatorships between 1945 and 1975. Currently, his research focuses on framing both regimes’ discourse on “organic democracy” within the debate on democracy that took place in Europe after 1945.
He has been visiting researcher at the Central European University, the University of California in San Diego (UCSD), the Instituto de Ciências Sociaisat theUniversidade de Lisboa and the IMT School for Advanced Studies in Lucca. In 2018, the Contemporary History Association granted him the “Young Researchers Award”. He has published more than twenty articles and book chapters in national and international journals and publishers.
His latest works include the book Dictatorship and the electoral vote. Francoism and the Portuguese New State in comparative perspective, 1945-1975, Sussex Academic Press, 2020.
