Natalia Urigüen holds a degree in History and a PhD with European mention and extraordinary prize in Contemporary History from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). She held a pre-doctoral scholarship from the UNED and is currently a research professor in the Department of Contemporary History at the same university with a post-doctoral scholarship. She has taught the subject Todays World: Europe in the International Relations degree at the Francisco de Vitoria University for three years. She has spent several stays in Germany.

She stands out as a researcher on Spanish foreign policy in the transition and Spain-Europe relations from the Second World War to the present day. She has written several research articles, book chapters and two books: A imagen y semejanza. La democracia cristiana alemana y su aportación a la transición española, published by CSIC in 2018 and Der Beitrag der deutschen Christdemokratie zur Transition in Spanien. Zu den transnationalen Netzwerken in den Jahren des Übergangs zur Demokratie nach Franco 1975 bis 1982, published by Droste in 2021.
